about Us
People often ask me where the name CANELA comes from.
It always makes me smile, because it takes me straight back home.
CANELA is the Spanish word for cinnamon. For me, it is not just a word or a scent, it is my grandmother’s kitchen in Mexico City.
Arroz con leche , cremitas de coco, banana bread waiting on the table, and my Tía Sarita smiling at me while I sat there for hours drawing and daydreaming.
There was no rush.
Growing up in Mexico City meant growing up in contrast not only of colors but life itself. Color, noise, movement, fear, beauty, and chaos all living side by side. Markets, loud streets, walls full of signs, cars, and people everywhere. Everything felt like it carried a story. Siting for hours in the middle of the traffic gave me the time to observe closely. To look twice. To imagine what was behind what I saw and to make those stories my own.
Today, CANELA is A place where different worlds can meet.
A place to BELONG.

our Team
At CANELA, people are at the heart of the studio.
Our team comes from different backgrounds. Artists, educators, makers and facilitators, each bringing their own sensitivity and experience into the space.
CANELA has grown from a very personal project into something shared. Today, it lives through collaboration, trust and the simple belief that a space becomes richer when different people bring something of themselves to it. We create together, learn from one another, and continue to shape CANELA as it grows.
